Homes Abandoned by Illegal Immigrants, Says Texas Loan Agency

A real estate loan agency in Texas has revealed that some homes are being left behind by illegal immigrants.

This situation stems from a mix of deportations and new policies from the Federal Housing Administration (FHA), which have cut down the number of foreign residents—both legal and illegal—who can qualify for federal loans.

A representative commented, “That’s what businesses like. They love the fact that there are more people out there, legal or not.”

In late March, the Trump administration announced a significant shift in FHA policy, ending access to FHA loans for non-permanent residents. These loans are backed by taxpayers and require a down payment of just 3.5% for most borrowers. Affected categories include DACA recipients, H-1B visa holders, asylum seekers, and refugees lacking green cards. The administration also made it impossible for illegal immigrants to secure loans previously available under President Biden.

Housing and Urban Development Secretary Scott Turner remarked on social media, “Today, HUD terminated Biden’s taxpayer-backed FHA mortgages for illegal aliens. American taxpayers will no longer subsidize open borders by providing mortgages to illegal immigrants.” This policy restricts federal loans to U.S. citizens, green card holders, and a select few others.

As a result of these changes, lenders reported a noticeable rise in homes being abandoned. A creator named Antts Inc. shared on a recent viral platform, “This week, I started foreclosing on illegal properties.” He described finding homes left in a hurry—“I found pizza boxes and food still in the pantry. They took what was valuable and left everything else.” These foreclosures stem from properties purchased with FHA loans intended for illegal immigrants.

Lenders mark these properties as potentially belonging to illegal immigrants and conduct inspections, often finding items like furniture and even fish tanks with dead fish left behind.

While visiting various homes for his YouTube channel, Antts predicts rent costs will likely decline soon. He mentioned, “Rents will go down in some states, and it’s already happening! But don’t expect that in sanctuary cities like California.”

In Texas, rent prices have already seen a significant drop since early 2024.

According to reports, studio rents have plummeted over 11% since December, with one-bedroom units down by more than 18.5%. For two-bedroom apartments, the prices have decreased by about 17%. Interestingly, three- and four-bedroom rentals remained stable or saw slight increases, of 2.6% and 0.7%, respectively.

A Texas resident commented on the rental landscape, saying, “They hiked up the rent,” pointing at illegal immigrants as part of the problem. He noted that in places like California, it’s common for multiple families to share a house and the rent, making it tough for single families to compete against that economic dynamic.

“Companies are thrilled,” he added, “They enjoy having more people around, whether legal or not.” In fact, rent prices in Texas experienced a sharp rise under the Biden administration starting in March 2021, followed by a quick decline beginning in October 2025.
