Rep. Al Green states that impeachment is a possibility before Independence Day

Democratic Lawmakers Reflect on American Pride

In a recent conversation with Fox News Digital, Democratic lawmakers shared their thoughts on American citizenship. Despite their disagreements with former President Donald Trump, they largely maintained that the United States remains a remarkable nation.

Representative Mark Pocan from Wisconsin noted, “The freedoms we enjoy and the ability for anyone to improve their circumstances for themselves and their families is generally a positive thing.” This sentiment captures a sense of optimism, albeit mixed with skepticism towards the current administration.

As Independence Day approaches, these responses highlight both confidence in the foundational principles of the country and a wariness of its leadership. Interestingly, only Rep. Al Green from Texas chose not to elaborate on his pride regarding American citizenship.

When asked about his feelings, Green asserted, “I am very proud to say that impeachment is an option to remove a reckless, cruel and lawless president.” His belief in the process was clear, even if, perhaps, it reflects a complex relationship with the country.

Representative Lloyd Doggett from Texas echoed such complex sentiments. He expressed faith in the American people’s readiness to defend democracy against authoritarianism, emphasizing the significance of the upcoming 251st birthday of the nation. He stated, “We are the greatest nation on earth, striving to uphold our values and freedoms.” Yet, his comments suggest a nuanced perspective, recognizing that while America has made great strides, there’s still work to do.

Other Democrats, such as Rep. Shri Thanedar from Michigan, recognized American exceptionalism. Thanedar articulated pride in being an American, highlighting the rich contributions of immigrants to the country, despite some reservations about the current administration.

In contrast, Republican lawmakers confidently affirmed their national pride, attributing the nation’s achievements to its founding ideals. Representative Glenn Grossman from Wisconsin remarked on how the Constitution empowers citizens to thrive, claiming that the material wealth of Americans is a product of their freedoms. “We don’t see this in many other developed countries,” he observed, suggesting that a combination of prosperity and a shared national identity plays a large role in that pride.

Representative Cory Mills from Florida added, “We are a people who understand peace through strength,” reflecting a strong desire to safeguard American values and freedoms that, he noted, aren’t guaranteed everywhere else.
