Resolution for Charlie Kirk Statue Introduced in Congress
On Friday, Rep. Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.) proposed a House resolution to install a statue of the late Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk in the Capitol. This would be the first official memorial at the Capitol since Kirk’s tragic assassination, which overshadowed what would have been his 32nd birthday.
The proposed legislation directs the House Arts Committee to accept and permanently display a statue of Kirk by January 2, 2027. This installation aims to honor his contributions to free expression, civic leadership, and faith-centered American principles.
The initial co-sponsors of the resolution include several representatives, such as Anna Paulina Luna (R-Fla.), Eric Burleson (R-Mo.), Eli Crane (R-Ariz.), and more. Notable supporters also include Barry Moore (R-Ala.), Tom Tiffany (R-Wis.), Scott Perry (R-Pa.), and others, bringing the total to a noteworthy list of lawmakers from various states.
Kirk’s assassination unfolded during a significant public event on September 10 at Utah Valley University, which marked the launch of an American Comeback Tour. His murder sparked numerous memorials across the nation, including a vigil held on September 14 that Rep. Biggs attended. As the tour progressed, memorials continued, culminating in a gathering on September 30 at Utah State University, featuring various speakers and commentators.
The movement for a statue on Capitol Hill complements multiple other memorials being planned, such as one at the New College of Florida. Already, a statue has been displayed outside Turning Point USA’s headquarters to symbolize Kirk’s spiritual impact. This initiative also has support in the Senate, with discussions surrounding making Kirk’s birthday, October 14, a national day of remembrance, especially after President Donald Trump’s passing.
Meanwhile, Rep. Biggs is in the running for the Arizona gubernatorial primary, with reports showing significant financial backing from Turning Point USA’s PAC.
In a statement reflecting on Kirk’s legacy, Biggs expressed, “Last month, we lost a great leader and a dear friend. A despicable and deranged assassin, radicalized by left-wing ideology, murdered Charlie Kirk for his beliefs. He was targeted for speaking the truth and defending his faith, family, and freedom. This resolution recognizes how Charlie changed the course of our country, ensuring his legacy becomes an eternal reminder on Capitol Hill that light is stronger than darkness, and truth will prevail.”
