Massachusetts Democratic Representative Ayanna Pressley expressed her support for the victim following the tragic shooting death of an 18-year-old woman in a Boston residence owned by her husband.
The victim, identified by her family as 18-year-old Yoselliani Marte, was reportedly a victim of domestic violence. Authorities have yet to officially confirm her identity or make any arrests.
“As someone committed to advocating for survivors of all crimes, my heart is heavy,” Pressley stated. “Right now, it’s crucial that we center the victim,” she added.
The young woman was discovered with a gunshot wound in a home belonging to Pressley’s husband, Conan Harris, whom she has been married to since 2014.
In a GoFundMe message, the family mentioned that she died due to domestic violence, with her mother suggesting she knows the person responsible.
“As a mother of an 18-year-old, I’m in the midst of excitedly planning to send her off to college,” Pressley shared. “My heart aches for the families impacted.”
Authorities have not yet released further details on the victim or any potential suspects related to this incident in Boston’s Mattapan neighborhood. Reports indicate she suffered a single gunshot wound.
“This young girl, whom we didn’t know, had her future ahead of her,” Pressley remarked. “But it’s all been tragically cut short.”
A representative from Pressley’s office clarified that neither Pressley nor her family had any involvement in the incident and expressed condolences to those affected.
The residence in question is a duplex that is currently on the market for $1.15 million, and neither Pressley nor Harris reside there.
Uncertainty surrounds whether Marte lived in the home where her body was discovered.
Marte’s mother emphasized her determination to seek justice for her daughter, stating, “all will be made clear.” Meanwhile, the police investigation into the circumstances of the death continues.
