Rep. Cory Mills Denies Criminal Investigation Claims
Republican Representative Cory Mills from Florida has firmly rejected reports suggesting he is under investigation by the Justice Department. Mills asserts that these claims are politically charged efforts aimed at undermining his re-election bid, especially with Florida’s Republican primary approaching.
“If you look closely at the report, it doesn’t actually say the Department of Justice or the FBI has confirmed an investigation,” Mills explained to Fox News Digital. “So far, all we have is one source claiming this.”
According to sources, the Justice Department is indeed looking into Mills, though the specifics of the investigation remain unclear. Additional reports indicate that this inquiry may involve aspects of Mills’ financial dealings.
Mills emphasized that he had not been contacted by either the Justice Department or the FBI about any such investigation. “There’s no sign that anyone has reached out to us. Neither agency has confirmed any investigation exists,” he said.
He argued that the timing of these claims reflects a calculated move by opponents in the race for Florida’s 7th Congressional District seat. “This is obviously a political tactic from our rivals. I think they’re trying to tarnish my reputation with just four weeks to go,” Mills remarked.
“It’s always a ‘source with inside knowledge,'” he noted. “If that’s the case, why don’t they share exactly what they’re looking into?”
As the primary election looms, Mills finds himself up against three other candidates: former news anchor Ryan Elijah, ex-Pentagon official Michael Johnson, and business leader Sarah Ulrich. Elijah is regarded as Mills’ primary challenger.
This investigation by the Justice Department coincides with a separate probe by the House Ethics Committee into Mills for allegations that include sexual misconduct, dating violence, and campaign finance issues. Mills faced domestic violence charges related to an incident in February 2025, followed by allegations of extortion later that year for threatening to release private photos of a girlfriend.
In April, Representative Nancy Mace initiated a motion to expel Mills, bringing to light accusations of sexual misconduct, campaign finance violations, and concerns over misrepresentation of his military service.
Mills has consistently denied any wrongdoing across these various allegations and investigations.
As for the House ethics investigation, it is set to commence in November 2025, although the conclusion date has yet to be announced.
Mills was first elected to the House in 2022 and successfully re-elected in 2024. Currently, he serves on both the House Armed Services and Intelligence Committees, and he is now vying for a third term. Florida’s primary election is set for August 18th.
