Texas Rep. Jasmine Crockett on Sunday slammed her colleague, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, as a “racist” and implored House Speaker Mike Johnson to “rein her.” It comes after two female lawmakers exchanged harsh words during a heated hearing before the Oversight Committee last week.
“MAGA has historically done things on social media where people say, ‘Oh, she’s ghetto because she has black eyelashes and nails and black hair,'” the Democrat said on CNN’s “State of the Union” on Sunday. Ta.
“So, to me, this was her buying into that rhetoric and trying to amplify it for the MAGA crowd. So, yeah, she was just trying to be racist towards me.” I absolutely believe he did that.”
Tensions flared between Greene (R-Ga.) and Crockett last Thursday night during a markup hearing in which the committee considered Attorney General Merrick Garland’s pursuit of contempt of Congress.
At one point during the hearing, Greene berated her Democratic colleagues, asking, “Are any of the Democrats on this committee hiring judges?” [Juan] A merchant’s daughter,” she said, referring to the judge who oversaw the hush-money trial against former President Donald Trump.
“Tell me what that has to do with Merrick Garland,” Crockett retorted, adding, “Do you know what we’re here for?”
“I don’t think you know what you’re here for,” Green replied. “I think your false eyelashes are ruining what I’m reading.”
From there, a shouting match broke out on the panel.
Amid the uproar, Mr. Crockett pressed for Mr. Greene’s remarks to be removed from the record, but Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) refused.
“If someone on this committee starts talking about someone’s bleach-blond bad physique, that doesn’t involve character, does it?” Crockett hissed.
Since then, Democrats have been trying to cash in on the racket by selling stolen goods.
Crockett also emphasized Sunday that he feels targeted.
Asked Sunday why she felt Greene’s jab was racist, the congresswoman clarified: “I think she specifically did that to me.”
“Women wear makeup and we put on eyelashes. We were all the type of people to make ourselves beautiful.”
Crockett, a first-time congresswoman, also claimed that House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) was “inclined to rein in her,” especially after he conspired to oust her.
“They just let Marjorie do whatever she wanted. And I think this was the first time someone actually said, ‘No, you treat me however you want and then It’s not going to end,”’ Crockett added.
The Texans lamented that Green was not penalized.
“The problem with MAGA is that MAGA has no respect for the rules or the law. That’s exactly why they’re all rushing to court Trump,” she said.
“He’s in trouble not because of some grand conspiracy by the Biden administration. He’s in trouble because he doesn’t abide by the law.
“The party of orderly law has ceased to exist at this time.”
Crockett also gave President Biden some advice as polls show signs that he is gaining support from Black voters.
“I think the important thing is whether people can understand what he did for them. Sometimes it’s hard to connect the dots,” she said.
“They’ve done so much, but I don’t think there’s been a constant flow of information.”
Biden, 81, holds a 71% to 13% lead among black voters over former President Donald Trump, according to one poll, compared to the 87% he recorded in 2020 exit polls. vs. 12% score. NBC News April Survey.
