Texas Rep. Endorses Allred in Congressional Race
Texas Democratic Representative Jasmine Crockett has thrown her support behind former Representative Colin Allred as they both prepare for the Democratic primary runoff set for May. Allred will be challenging Democratic U.S. Rep. Julie Johnson in the 33rd Congressional District.
Crockett expressed her endorsement in a statement, emphasizing Allred’s dedication to working families and his stance against the current administration. “He has the track record, the grit, and the heart to stand up for working families and communities facing challenges,” she stated, adding that he would fight to abolish ICE and oppose Donald Trump’s policies.
She noted her firsthand experience of Allred’s commitment, mentioning their collaboration that secured substantial federal investments for affordable housing, healthcare, and transportation in North Texas. “Colin didn’t just talk about fighting for our community; he won. That’s why I’m proud to support him,” Crockett said.
In response, Allred shared his gratitude for Crockett’s endorsement on social media, recognizing her bravery in advocating for her community, stating, “I’m honored to have the support of my friend Jasmine, who has always stood up for Texans.” He articulated his commitment to reducing costs, protecting rights, and providing real leadership for Texas.
Crockett has been serving in the U.S. House of Representatives since early 2023. Recently, she faced a setback when she lost the Democratic Texas Senate primary to state Rep. James Talarico.
Interestingly, Allred, who initially ran in the Texas Democratic Senate primary, withdrew from that race the same day Crockett announced her candidacy. Prior to losing the primary, he had also endorsed Crockett.
In another twist, discussions among Democrats have suggested that Crockett’s entry into the race affected Allred’s decision to step back from the Senate race.
As the Texas political landscape continues to evolve, Crockett’s strong stance and support for Allred highlight the persistent drive among Texas Democrats to advocate for change and progress within their communities.
