Rep. Warren Davidson Discusses Narco Law Aimed at Disrupting International Cartels
During a recent interview with Breitbart News, Rep. Warren Davidson (R-OH) elaborated on his proposed Narco law, which aims to operationalize reforms from the Trump administration to combat international drug cartels.
Davidson has proposed new measures to update the Counter Drug Operations Act, known as the Narco Act, building on recent changes made by Secretary of State Marco Rubio of the International Drugs and Law Enforcement Agency (INL). This new act will also incorporate aspects of President Trump’s 2026 budget proposal.
He mentioned that the act aligns with the overall intent of a prior bill called The Stop The Cartels Act introduced several years ago.
The Ohio Conservative Party expressed that this legislation is focused on pragmatic solutions regarding cartel activities.
“Can we at least agree to stop the cartel?” he asked. Davidson emphasized the need to shift the conversation, asserting that cartels should be treated as enemies of the country, and he plans to advocate for this viewpoint moving forward.
While Trump has taken strides to tighten border security, Davidson believes it’s essential to codify these reforms into law.
“We just want to lock this up and ensure that regardless of who holds the presidency, the focus stays consistent,” he stated.
According to his office, the Narco Act aims to enhance INL’s mission and implement vital reforms, including:
- Reducing ineffective national construction programs by capping justice capacity-building initiatives at under 10% of the department’s budget.
- Requiring at least 20% of the department’s budget to be allocated to programs that focus on dismantling cartels and rewarding efforts against major criminals.
- Prioritizing the fight against activities that support terrorist organizations, such as drug trafficking and arms smuggling.
- Expanding INL’s mission to address illegal immigration and human smuggling, leveraging expertise for border security.
- Enhancing collaboration with key agencies like the Department of Treasury, Department of Justice, and Department of Homeland Security to establish a unified governmental strategy.
- Creating a searchable database of bureau programs, expenditures, and success metrics to promote transparency and proper use of taxpayer funds.
“Regardless of your views on legal immigration or agricultural work programs, there’s a consensus that cartels are taking advantage of people. We need to put an end to that,” he continued.
Davidson also pointed out the cartels’ involvement in fraud schemes, including operations targeting elderly individuals. His goal is to shut down these criminal enterprises.
