Rep. Eric Swalwell says Biden belongs on the ‘Democratic Mount Rushmore’ with FDR

Rep. Eric Swalwell, D-Calif., said President Biden’s accomplishments make him worthy of being placed on the “Democratic Mount Rushmore” alongside John F. Kennedy and Franklin D. Roosevelt.

MSNBC’s “The Weekend” host Michael Steele on Saturday asked Swalwell to talk about the “tenacity” of the Biden administration and what kind of legacy Biden will leave behind.

“When we fight for people, we win,” Swalwell said. “And we saw that with Medicare. We saw that with the Stop Inflation Act, which for the first time ever had three-month inflation rate of zero, not 3 percent or 2 percent. So the legacy this president will leave is that his kids will be driving on the roads he built. They will be running devices with chips he built. And they will be supporting their families with the jobs he created.”

Nancy Pelosi suggests adding Biden to Mount Rushmore: ‘Very influential president’

She added, “I believe Joe Biden will climb the Democratic Mount Rushmore with Presidents Franklin Roosevelt, Kennedy, Truman and Johnson, and will certainly be remembered for the 16 million jobs he created. But he also puts himself in a position to be remembered for the one job he left behind, and that’s the job he left to Kamala Harris, with her taking over and running.”

The comments echo those of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi earlier this month, when, in a conversation with CBS reporter Lesley Stahl, she praised Biden’s decision to drop out of the 2024 presidential race.

“He was in a great position to make any decision. He was in great form,” Pelosi said. “A very influential president of the United States, a Mount Rushmore of presidents of the United States.”

“Are you really saying Lincoln and Joe Biden deserve to be on Mount Rushmore?” Staal asked.

“Well, you have Teddy Roosevelt there, and he’s great,” Pelosi declared. “I’m not saying take him out, but you can add Biden.”

Both men praised Biden for dropping out of the election, but inside information suggests a group of Democrats may have staged a sort of “coup” to persuade Biden not to run for reelection.
