Rep. Fine's 'Thump Thump' Bill Allows Drivers to Hit Protesters in the Street

Florida Rep. Proposes Tough Measures Against Road-Blocking Protests

Rep. Randy Fine (R-FL) is advocating for strict consequences against protesters who block roads as a form of political expression, labeling such actions as akin to terrorism. He highlighted, in a conversation with Breitbart News, the potential dangers this poses, citing examples like a pregnant woman unable to reach a hospital or an ambulance stuck in traffic. “It disrupts our lives, and it’s not a reasonable form of protest,” Fine emphasized.

The proposed legislation aims to reinforce policies that Fine previously supported during his time in the Florida Senate in 2021. He expressed pride in being part of the team that initiated these changes. “Blocking the roads allows you to evade consequences. And what do you think? Protesters shouldn’t block Florida roads as a result,” he remarked, suggesting that Florida should be a model for the rest of America when it comes to these issues.

While road-blocking protests are often associated with leftist movements, Fine noted that conservatives haven’t responded with similar proposals, positioning his party as one focused on law and order. He criticized the left for allegedly prioritizing actions that disrupt societal order, saying, “The left will prioritize all the bad things: criminals, robbers, protesters, terrorists, illegals.”

Fine’s bill seems to align with recent announcements from former President Trump regarding reducing crime in cities run by Democrats, expressing appreciation for Trump’s efforts to enhance safety in the nation’s capital. “People should be safe when they come to our country’s capital and don’t have to worry about being attacked,” Fine stated.

However, he acknowledged the risks that come with protesters blocking highways, stating, “I don’t care about that because they chose to do that. If you’re standing in the middle of the highway, don’t be surprised when you run away.” The bill is currently under consideration in the House Judiciary Committee, led by Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), with Fine affirming ongoing discussions with Jordan.

As he continues his summer break engaging with constituents, Fine is aware of the potential for protests at Republican events. He noted that groups linked to radical left ideologies could disrupt gatherings, but expressed confidence that such tactics wouldn’t work in Florida. “If they block the road, it won’t work for them,” he said.

Support for Fine’s legislation also comes from Rep. Brandon Gill (R-TX), who anticipates that collaboration will increase on this issue.
