Rep. Jackson Lee reveals pancreatic cancer diagnosis

Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas) announced Sunday that she has pancreatic cancer and anticipates she may be “absent at times” from Congress for treatment.

Jackson Lee, 74, who won the Houston primary in March after losing the mayoral race late last year, said he was optimistic about his recovery.

“My doctor has confirmed the diagnosis of pancreatic cancer,” she wrote. statement“I am currently undergoing treatment to combat this disease that affects tens of thousands of Americans each year.”

“I am confident that my doctors have come up with the best plan to target my specific illness,” she continued. “The road ahead will not be easy, but I trust that God will make me strong.”

Lee is a member of the Congressional Black Caucus and was first elected to Congress in 1995. He serves as the ranking member of the Judiciary Committee’s Crime Subcommittee.

Jackson Lee said he will likely be present for the most important votes while he’s undergoing treatment.

“I am committed to working with congressional leadership, including Majority Leader Akeem Jeffries and the Speaker of the House, to serve this country and be present for votes on legislation that is vital to the prosperity and security of the American people,” she said. “By God’s grace, I will soon make a full recovery.”
