Rep. Jasmine Crockett from Texas found herself on live TV defending her claims after she alleged that Republicans were hiding the identity of a victim from Jeffrey Epstein in recently released emails. This scenario unfolded during her appearance on CNN.
The emails, which are part of a larger set of documents—23,000 pages from Epstein’s estate—were released by Republicans on the House Oversight Committee. This came after Democrats had previously disclosed a smaller document where they chose to redact the name of Virginia Giuffre, a victim who has since passed away.
Subsequently, Republicans pointed out that Giuffre was indeed the name left out from a 2011 email, accusing Democrats of purposely concealing that information.
Crockett stated on “The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer,” “The fact that President Trump doesn’t want me to know these files means he has a lot more to hide than he can actually exonerate.”
However, CNN anchor Pamela Brown interjected, noting that Giuffre had mentioned in her memoir that Trump was not involved in Epstein’s crimes. She had tragically taken her own life in April.
Crockett responded somewhat dismissively, saying, “I don’t know. Obviously, it’s been redacted to see who the victims are, so I’m not necessarily going to take the Republicans’ word on who’s being redacted. I don’t see why we would need to redact the names of the deceased at this point.”
Brown promptly corrected her, saying, “But that’s what the Democrats did.”
Caught off guard and looking frustrated, Crockett hesitated and attempted to modify her earlier statement, shifting the discussion. “Democrats—no, no, we understand. But let’s just say our biggest concern is actually making sure that victims are protected. And obviously, she wrote the book and she told the truth.”
