Rep. Jerry Nadler closes his eyes during the House Judiciary hearing with Pam Bondi

House Hearing Features Congressman Nadler Appearing to Doze Off

During a recent House Judiciary Committee hearing, Rep. Jerry Nadler (D.N.Y.) was spotted with his eyes closed, leading many observers to accuse him of falling asleep while Attorney General Pam Bondi was giving her opening statement. This was a noteworthy occasion for Bondi, as it marked her first appearance before the committee since taking over at the Justice Department.

Nadler, 78 years old and a veteran of 17 terms in Congress, appeared to doze off not just during Bondi’s statement but also while Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.), the committee’s leading Democrat, was speaking. This prompted a response from the Republican account on social media, including a post with a sleeping emoji depicting Nadler.

One Republican tweet remarked, “Don’t worry, @RepNadler. We too are tired of hearing @RepRaskin complain about President Trump!” Another user shared a video, noting that Nadler appeared to be asleep during Bondi’s address and was awakened by his staff.

In another online post, a conservative outlet shared an image of Nadler, claiming he was seen sleeping again during the hearing.

Nadler did seem more alert when questioning Bondi, engaging in conversation about the Justice Department’s efforts to comply with laws regarding the release of non-classified documents tied to the Jeffrey Epstein case.

Gun rights advocate Andrew Pollack took to social media, implying that Nadler’s apparent dozing off conveyed a lack of seriousness toward the victims of Epstein.

Having served over 30 years in Congress, Nadler previously held a prominent role as the leading Democrat on the Judiciary Committee. He announced last September that he would be retiring from his congressional position.

As for Nadler’s office, there hasn’t been any comment regarding the incident.
