Rep. Jim McGovern (D-Mass.) announced the sudden death of her daughter, Molly McGovern, who faced a “rare cancer diagnosis.”
In a joint statement with his wife, Lisa McGovern and son, Patrick McGovern, lawmakers said her death was unexpected.
“Even when she faced a rare cancer diagnosis, she did so with relentless courage, optimism and tenacity — her illness refused to slow her down. She had just finished the semester abroad in Australia.
Rep. McGovern, a top Democrat on the House Rules Committee, recalled in a family statement that her daughter “radiated pure joy.”
“She illuminated every room with a shining smile filled with laughter, endless warmth, and a sharp wit that could quickly disarm you. She was incredibly funny, fiercely loyal and wise beyond her years.” “Molly had an unusual gift. She really believed everyone was special, so everyone felt special. She treated people with compassion and kindness.
The family added that Molly “will always be the soul of our family.”
McGovern’s statement conveyed the bipartisan sadness of dol.
“Everyone in our family worships Molly and we were all inspired by her love for animals, her passion for sports and her passionate compassion and care for her friends, family and strangers,” Rep. Jamie Ruskin (D-Md.) said in a statement.
Rep. Mike Lawler (RN.Y.) said Social Platform x“Nothing is more valuable than a child’s gift. It is difficult to handle and speculate on the unbearable sorrow associated with their loss. Keep the entire McGovern family in prayer.”
McGovern is the second lawmaker to announce her daughter’s death this month. Last week, Senator Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.) announced the death of his adult daughter.
