House Judiciary Committee Chairman Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) sent letter It has requested more information from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and the International Organization for Migration about how the UN is helping the Biden administration “expedite” undocumented immigrants into the US through “illegal” routes. Daily Caller News Foundation report.
The letter obtained by DCNF noted that the House Judiciary Committee continues to monitor the Biden administration’s enforcement of immigration law.
“Efforts to ensure more foreign nationals arrive in the United States”
“Despite the unprecedented border crisis and the Biden Administration’s release of millions of illegal immigrants into the United States, the administration continues to create new illegal tactics to quickly bring even more immigrants into the country,” both letters said.
Jordan called on the UN to provide additional information about its partnership with the Biden administration, particularly the US State Department’s “Safe Relocation Office” initiative, which he noted the UNHCR has asserted will “avoid the risks associated with on-going relocations.”
“In other words, this new program will expedite alien entry into the United States without the eyes of the American public and without publicizing border chaos. Far from simply expanding the U.S. refugee admissions program, the Office of Safe Relocation will give aliens outside the United States ‘several options’ for resettlement in the United States, including family reunification, labor pathways, and the Biden Administration’s unlawful expansion of abuse of humanitarian parole,” Jordan wrote.
He noted that the Biden administration’s efforts had “reached 170,000 people” by mid-April.
Department of State WebsiteThe Safe Migration Initiative is one of many ways the Biden administration is “providing access to safe and legal pathways from regional partner countries at no cost, ensuring refugees and vulnerable migrants do not have to undertake dangerous journeys in search of safety and better opportunities.”
“As part of our partnership with the United States, UNHCR is responsible for outreach in Colombia, Costa Rica, Guatemala and Ecuador to appropriately contact individuals who are interested in the program and may be eligible to enroll through the initiative’s website,” Jordan wrote. “US taxpayers continue to fund the organization’s work as UNHCR works to help more foreign nationals arrive in the United States.”
IOM also “regularly promotes” the program and “provides information to foreign nationals on how to travel to the United States,” Jordan said.
Since 2021, American taxpayers have paid more than $6.3 billion to UNHCR, according to the letter.
Jordan requested documents and information from the UN, including UNHCR and IOM’s communications with the Biden administration regarding the safe mobility offices and the amount of funding the two agencies have dedicated to the effort.
Neither UNHCR nor IOM responded to DCNF’s requests for comment.
