Rep. Jordan says Mayorkas impeachment inquiry ‘all part of the Biden administration’

Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) said Wednesday that the House's anticipated impeachment inquiry into Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas is an extension of the investigation into the Biden administration's handling of the border crisis.

Asked on NewsNation's “Balance with Leland Wittert” whether Mayorkas' impeachment would change the border situation if the issue relates to Biden administration policy, Jordan said: That's correct. ”

Mr. Bittert interjected, asking the Ohio Republican if Mr. Mayorkas' impeachment was “some kind of political show” that would not “bring about change at the border.”

“Well… every decision regarding impeachment should be based on the facts,” Jordan responded. “And we're in an impeachment inquiry with the president, and we're in an impeachment inquiry with Mr. Mayorkas as well.”

“Based on the performance of the Chairman, [Rep. Mark] green [R-Tenn.] As we have done in the Committee, in the Homeland Security Committee and frankly in some of the hearings, we act on the facts, we act on the evidence. decide. “

Jordan's comments came as the House Homeland Security Committee announced the start of a series of impeachment hearings against Mayorkas, with the first of four hearings scheduled for January 10. It came out just a few hours later. Greene alleges that Mayorkas has “demonstrated negligence” in his role as Secretary of Homeland Security. He said he was “within the call of duty” in his response at the border.

Opposition to Mr. Mayorkas has grown over the past year among House Republicans as a result of the influx of migrants to the U.S. southern border.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) introduced a resolution last November calling for Mayorkas to be removed from office, but it was later approved after Greene assured the House would proceed with impeachment proceedings. I withdrew my vote.

Greene said in a Fox News interview last month that articles of impeachment against Mayorkas have already been drafted and will be marked up at the end of the process.

Jordan headed to the border near Eagle Pass, Texas, on Wednesday as part of a group of about 60 Republicans led by House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana).
