Rep. Kay Granger says she's had 'unforeseen health challenges,' but not in memory care

Rep. Kay Granger (R-Texas) says she has an “unforeseen health issue” and her office denies she is receiving memory care.

“I deeply appreciate the outpouring of care and concern over the past few days,” Granger said in an emailed statement to The Hill on Sunday.

“As many of my family, friends and colleagues know, I have been navigating unexpected health challenges over the past year,” she added. “However, since early September, my health issues have progressed, making frequent travel to Washington difficult and unpredictable.”

Granger's statement to The Hill follows Friday's report. from local outlet The Dallas Express kept an eye on Granger's whereabouts. The store reportedly received confirmation from three employees that the Texas Republican resides in a memory care and assisted living facility.

“In November, I was able to return to Washington, D.C., to speak on behalf of my constituents, thank our staff, and oversee the closure of our Washington office. Council members, mayors, and members of Congress It has been the honor of a lifetime to serve the city of Fort Worth as an executive,” Granger said in a statement to The Hill on Sunday.

“Thank you for your continued prayers and support for me,” she added.

Granger announced a little more than a year ago that he would not seek re-election.

“I am encouraged by the next generation of leaders in my district as I announce my decision not to seek re-election,” Granger said in a previous statement. “It is time for the next generation to step up, take over and become strong and courageous representatives of our people.”
