Rep. Luna planning to force vote to hold Garland in inherent contempt for refusal to hand over Biden-Hur tapes

Florida Republican Rep. Anna Paulina Luna is getting ready Force the House to vote to fine Attorney General Merrick Garland $10,000 a day for failing to comply with congressional subpoenas to turn over audio tapes of President Biden’s handling of classified documents.

The move to invoke the rarely used inherent contempt power could result in fines for every day Garland fails to turn over tapes of his interviews with special counsel Robert Hur in exchange for keeping Biden in custody.

“I would say, this is definitely painful for a lot of people. I know Biden is cognitively incapacitated, but I don’t think Garland is willing to make the sacrifice for his team, so to speak, in terms of continuing to fight. So I think this act serves two purposes.”

“Number one, there should not be a double standard of justice in this country. There are people in prison for what he did, but number two, I believe he will be forced to either turn over the tapes or resign,” the Florida congresswoman told Fox News’ Maria Bartiromo on Sunday.

Luna said he plans to put the issue to a vote on Wednesday and expects it to pass with Speaker Mike Johnson’s support.

Following Luna’s comments, Bartiromo asked what was on the tape that could be crucial to Republicans.

“I think it’s very possible that Biden has either forgotten who he is or said something so egregious in an interview that it gave his own Cabinet a reason to basically invoke the 25th Amendment,” Luna responded.

“What’s scary is that people like Garland are willing to break the law to protect him.” [Biden]”So my point is, to the American people and even to Democrats who are concerned about Biden being the nominee, what is on those tapes that warrants going to such lengths to basically protect him?” she continued.

“It’s our job and our constitutional duty to ensure that the American people are protected. We need to hear the tapes. They’re obstructing a congressional investigation.”

Former Rep. Charlie Rangel, 94, has questioned whether Biden should be in a nursing home rather than the White House.

Luna is expected to declare the bill “privileged” when the House returns to session on Monday, which would force the chamber to consider the bill within two legislative days.

House Republicans voted last month to sue Garland in contempt of Congress for refusing to turn over audio tapes of interviews Heo conducted about Biden’s handling of classified documents, but the Justice Department has declined to prosecute, citing Biden’s assertion of executive privilege over the tapes.
