Rep. Mark Amodei wins Republican primary for Nevada’s 2nd congressional

Longtime Republican Rep. Mark Amodei defeated a challenge from Dr. Fred Simon, a former surgeon and real estate investor, in Nevada’s 2nd Congressional District, according to a race reported by the Associated Press.

The deep-red 2nd Congressional District covers most of northern Nevada. Amodei has held the seat since 2011. He defeated his Democratic opponent 59.7% to 37.8% in the 2022 general election. Because voters in the district tend to be conservative, winning the primary is essentially the same as winning the general election.

Before the election, Amodei Reno Gazette Journal “If re-elected, I will use the seniority I have built to elevate Nevadans’ voices on all issues and ensure our issues are prioritized and addressed well. Land Bill After passage, the post office will not relocate to Sacramento and Nevada Air National Guard units will have new J-model C-130s.”

Republicans currently hold a slim 218-213 majority in the House but are seeking to expand their majority after numerous lawmakers resigned and one was expelled over the past year.
