Congresswoman Nancy Mace got into an argument with late-night show host Bill Maher over why she was getting close to former President Trump.
“The Biden administration has been in office for three years,” the South Carolina Republican told Maher.
Maher retorted, “That’s terrible, isn’t it?”
“That was very bad,” Mace retorted.
Mace, a Republican maverick, was on set with Democratic Rep. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) and former U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, where he also discussed TikTok and the British royal family.
The late-night host teased Mace about potentially becoming former President Trump’s running mate.
“I wouldn’t say no,” Maher said.
Mace replied: “No one will turn it down. You’re right there. And it’s for your country. It’s a service to your country.”
Mr. Maas then scolded Mr. Mace about the certified votes from the 2020 presidential election, which former President Trump has long claimed were stolen.
“If you were vice president on January 6th, would you have done what Mike Pence did to make Trump so angry?” Maher said.
“I certified the Electoral College in every state,” Mace said.
“I mean, it was the right thing to do, it was the constitutional thing to do. And I would, 100 percent, do it again. 100 percent.”
Maher suggested that if President Trump were watching the show, he might not be happy to hear about it.
“I hope he watches tonight! I hope he watches tonight,” Mace retorted.
Although Mace is a relative newcomer, having been elected in 2020, he has established himself as a hated figure within the House Republican conference.
She was one of only eight House Republicans to vote to oust former Speaker Kevin McCarthy from power last year, prompting howls of protest and major threats from colleagues.
She also raised eyebrows after reports surfaced in December that she routinely discussed her sex life in front of employees at work.
