Rep. Omar allegedly assaulted with apple cider vinegar at Minneapolis town hall

Incident at Town Hall Event

A man has been charged after reportedly attacking Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) during a town hall in Minneapolis, allegedly spraying her with a substance believed to be apple cider vinegar.

The suspect, 55-year-old Anthony James Kazmierczak, was caught on video lunging towards Omar while spraying her shirt. The incident occurred shortly after she had called for the resignation or impeachment of Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, following some recent tragic shootings involving federal immigration agents in the area.

Witnesses commented on the unpleasant smell of the substance, which was later confirmed as apple cider vinegar by a hazardous materials team. Following the attack, Omar’s office stated that the liquid was indeed sprayed from a syringe.

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey issued a statement condemning the violence, asserting that such behavior is unacceptable in the city. He expressed relief that Omar was unharmed and praised law enforcement for their prompt response. “You can protest without putting people at risk,” he added.

Kazmierczak, who has prior DUI offenses, has been charged with third-degree assault and is now held in Hennepin County Jail.

The FBI is taking the lead on the investigation, with no immediate comments from either the Bureau or Omar’s office.
