Florida Lawmaker Proposes Ban on Welfare for Noncitizens

Florida Republican Representative Randy Fine has announced plans to introduce legislation aimed at prohibiting welfare benefits for noncitizens.

His statement emphasized, “I will introduce a bill that would ban all forms of welfare to all non-citizens. No food stamps, no Section 8 housing, no Medicaid, no cash assistance. Not a penny. Not a penny. If you want free, go home.” This was shared on social media.

Interestingly, while serving in Congress requires U.S. citizenship, Fine recently proposed another bill that would disallow individuals with dual or foreign citizenship from holding federal office.

Fine stated, “No person may be elected to the office of a member of the House of Representatives or the Senate if he is a national of any country other than the United States, whether or not he is a citizen of the United States.” He elaborated that in today’s world, where dual citizenship is increasingly common, it might be acceptable for civilians but is, in his opinion, unacceptable for Congress members who are responsible for protecting national interests.

Fine, who previously served in the Florida House of Representatives, won a seat in the House earlier this year following a special election.

Notably, then-President-elect Donald Trump voiced his support for Fine back in November, claiming, “If he decides to run in this race, Randy Fine has my full and complete support. Run, Randy, run!”

Recently, Trump reiterated his endorsement on social media, asserting Fine is “doing a great job representing Florida’s 6th Congressional District” and reaffirming his backing.
