Rep. Ritchie Torres Speaks Out Against Anti-Semitism

Rep. Ritchie Torres from New York, a known opponent of anti-Semitism, expressed strong views on Wednesday about the ongoing conflict in Israel. He stated that individuals who refuse to condemn the atrocities committed by Hamas on October 7, 2023, “have no business” calling themselves humanitarians.

He further elaborated, “If you can’t bring yourself to blame Hamas for the murder, wounding, amputation, sexual violence, torture, and abduction of thousands of Jews and Israelis on October 7th, then you can’t label yourself a humanitarian.” In his perspective, true humanitarianism that ignores the suffering of Jewish individuals is fundamentally flawed, suggesting it stems from anti-Semitism.

Concerns Over Drug Crisis in the Bronx

Meanwhile, there are ongoing discussions among Democratic officials regarding the city’s failure to address the crisis of open drug markets in the Bronx.

Torres also emphasized the need to support Israel, pointing out that “the main obstacle to ending the conflict is the terrorist organization that instigated it: Hamas.” He criticized those who overlook Hamas’s role in perpetuating the violence.

Political Commentary on Party Absurdity

In another comment shared on X, Torres described anti-Semitism as “the most deadly disease ever to torment the human mind.” He also implied that critically labeling Israel as an “apartheid” state is, perhaps, more about propaganda than a genuine attempt at constructive criticism. He noted that such rhetoric often seems aimed at undermining Israel’s existence as a Jewish state.

Torres has served in the U.S. House of Representatives since early 2021. His commitment to discussing these complex issues reflects a belief that open dialogue is essential even amid deeply divided viewpoints.
