Rep. Ro Khanna Aims to Be Part of the Discussion for 2028 Democratic Candidates

Khanna Discusses Future Aspirations Amid Political Landscape

When asked about his presidential ambitions, California Democratic lawmaker Ro Khanna expressed a desire to engage in the national discussion for 2028. In an interview on the Hill news show “Rising,” News Nation contributor Chris Cillizza and Daily Caller senior editor Amber Duke explored Khanna’s support for initiatives aimed at reducing drug prices, particularly in relation to a recent presidential order.

Cillizza posed a direct question regarding Khanna’s interest in the 2028 presidential race. “Are you thinking about running for president in 2028?” he asked the member of the Progressive Caucus.

Khanna replied, “To be honest, I’ll focus on the House and getting that back. But do I want to participate in the national conversation? Absolutely.” He added that discussing the 2028 election feels premature since involvement in this political landscape requires an emphasis on present issues. “Politics is like tennis,” he remarked, hinting at the need to stay engaged in current events.

The representatives shared their goals, emphasizing the importance of establishing a Democratic majority in the U.S. House. Khanna highlighted the need to resist unconstitutional actions and to aid the public effectively. Reflecting on his experiences in the community, he claimed that he hadn’t heard much about celebrity concerns; rather, he focused on real issues faced by everyday people.

Khanna also criticized the pharmaceutical industry, pointing out that lobbying amounts to $16 billion while American citizens are charged exorbitant prices for medications compared to other nations. He underscored the need for bipartisan efforts to tackle these issues.

Recently, Khanna introduced legislation aimed at codifying a presidential executive order that seeks to lower prescription drug prices. “Currently, we pay two to three times more for drugs than people in other developed countries,” he said, stressing that this new legislation intends to hold pharmaceutical companies accountable and prevent price gouging.

During a rally in his House district, speculation arose regarding his potential run for the presidency in 2028. Nonetheless, some critics remain skeptical about his status as a leading candidate in this race.

Khanna has not held back in criticizing Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and former President Biden. In a recent interview, he claimed that Schumer had wasted previously given goodwill and expressed frustration with New York’s Democratic representation. He previously urged fellow Democrats to recognize the misstep in backing Biden’s reelection efforts last year.

On Fox News, he reiterated that it isn’t difficult for Democrats to openly reconsider Biden’s candidacy. “Now we know the facts,” he stated, suggesting that an open primary would have been more beneficial. He aims for accountability and a clearer path forward for the party and its constituents.
