Governor’s Hopeful Mikie Sherrill Excluded from Graduation Ceremony Due to Scandal
New Jersey Governor candidate Mikie Sherrill, a lawmaker, was reportedly barred from walking with her graduating class at the U.S. Naval Academy because of her connection to a significant fraud scandal that has surfaced, according to various reports.
Documentation obtainedshows that Sherrill’s name was absent from the graduation program during the ceremony held on May 25, 1994.
The lawmaker stated that she was prohibited from participating because she chose not to betray a fellow classmate involved in the scandal, which impacted around 130 midshipmen in her graduating class.
In her own words, “I didn’t walk because I didn’t submit some of my classmates, but I graduated and was commissioned as a U.S. Navy officer, serving nearly a decade with the highest level of distinction and honor,” Sherrill (D-NJ) shared.
Sherrill declined to allow the release of a sealed disciplinary record from her time at the academy, which could have clarified the reasons for her exclusion from the graduation.
The timing of this revelation coincides with a surprising poll that indicates Republican contender Jack Ciattarelli is struggling, emphasizing Sherrill’s status as a strong frontrunner in the race.
