Stefanik’s Upcoming Book on Higher Education Corruption

Congresswoman Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.) is gearing up to release a new book that she argues will shed light on widespread corruption in America’s higher education system.

In an interview, Stefanik stated, “This book discusses moral decay and academic corruption within the country’s elite educational institutions.” Her book, titled Poison Ivy: An Internal Report on Academic and Moral Corruption at America’s Elite Universities, is set to launch in April. It will delve into what she perceives as systemic corruption in prestigious universities.

Reflecting on previous Congressional hearings, Stefanik recalled interactions with the heads of Harvard, the University of Pennsylvania, and MIT. “I posed a straightforward moral question,” she explained. “It wasn’t political; it was purely moral.” During these hearings, she had asked university leaders whether calls for genocide against Jews breached academic codes of conduct. The responses—where on separate occasions the leaders said, “It depends on the context”—echoed widely, creating a significant impact in academic circles.

Currently, Stefanik is also running for governor of New York, aiming to become the first Republican in that role since George Pataki was elected in 2002.

Having graduated from Harvard herself, Stefanik believes these institutions have deviated from their foundational missions. “I was the first in my family to graduate from college. And when I attended, sure, it leaned left, but we didn’t see these anti-American sentiments dominate conversations,” she said, reflecting on her experiences nearly two decades ago.

Stefanik recounted hearing numerous accounts from students who have faced difficulties. “My office has spoken with countless students nationwide who are voicing their concerns,” she shared.

She emphasized the need for reform in American higher education, particularly in light of a recent report indicating that $60 billion in foreign gifts and contracts flowed to U.S. universities, with $20 billion specifically allocated to elite institutions like Harvard and Yale. Notably, U.S. adversaries contributed $795 million of that total.

“We’re seeing a huge influx of foreign funds in our education system,” Stefanik warned. “It’s vital that we ensure regulations are strictly followed and put American students’ interests first.” She also expressed concern over the ideological leanings of tenured faculty members.

Stefanik concluded by stressing that restoring American values is crucial for addressing deeper issues within higher education. “What’s expressed in these institutions doesn’t reflect American values, and that’s troubling. We have to utilize taxpayer funding to mandate protections for students and counteract the rising foreign influence.”
