Omaha Repeat Offender Arrested for Child Incident

A 65-year-old man from Omaha, Nebraska, who has a long history of sexual offenses, is back in jail after an alarming incident involving a child. LeVern Scott, known by the nickname “Cookie Monster,” has been listed on the sex offender registry since 1987, but that didn’t stop his recent actions, according to police reports.

Early Friday morning, officers responded to an apartment near 13th and Leavenworth after a call about a naked intruder. They found that Scott entered through an unlocked door, stripped off his clothes, and proceeded directly to a child’s bedroom where the nine-year-old boy was asleep.

The child awoke, frightened from a nightmare. Reports state that Scott got into bed with the boy, holding him down using his legs. The situation escalated when the child began screaming, prompting family members to rush into the room. They discovered Scott at the foot of the bed, seemingly caught off guard with a bottle of water and lotion in hand.

It didn’t end with that encounter. Just a block away, Scott exited the scene, claiming to be returning to his own home. However, police later found him wandering nearby, wearing only socks.

This incident is part of a disturbing pattern that spans decades for Scott. He has a history of sexual offenses, including convictions in 1987 for offenses against a minor and an attempted sexual assault in 1999. He has been charged multiple times for lewd behavior and trespassing, while also failing to comply with registration requirements several times over the years, racking up 2,777 days of violations since 2017.

The local sheriff, Aaron Hanson, pointed out that despite ongoing law enforcement efforts, the current legal framework does not provide adequate tools for monitoring high-risk offenders like Scott. He described Scott as “the definition of a repeat offender, a predator.” The Omaha Police Association raised similar concerns, emphasizing the ongoing risks posed by those who violate registration laws.

Scott is currently facing charges of attempted sexual assault, robbery, and failure to register as a sex offender. His bail is set at $1.25 million, and he remains in custody at the Douglas County Correctional Facility. A court date is expected on June 1st for further proceedings. Local authorities continue to urge community members to report any pertinent information related to such incidents.
