At least six people were killed after three children from Spain crashed into the Hudson River Thursday afternoon after a helicopter carried the family, two adults and three children. Associated Press.

The sixth death was the death of a helicopter pilot.
Officials from the New York City Police Department (NYPD) confirmed that the helicopter was in the river as of 3:40pm local time.
“The crash of a helicopter on the Hudson River near Westside Highway and Spring Street is expected to delay emergency vehicles and traffic in the surrounding area,” according to a statement from the NYPD.
In addition to the five Spanish families, the body of the pilot was also found inside.
Witnesses informed the press that they observed that the helicopter was “split in half” before crashing near Pier 40. Additionally, the aircraft reportedly made clear “attack” noise before its descent.
“I heard a loud snap… I looked over…and I could see the helicopter falling to its side and jumping into the water,” an unknown witness said. ABC7. “I didn't see anyone coming out.”
It remains unclear whether helicopters are currently operated for tourist purposes or privately owned. The cause of the crash has not yet been determined as the investigation is still in its early stages.
Rescue and recovery operations are still underway.
Online video showed the helicopter sinking into the river when an emergency team rushed to the scene.
