Report: Sergio Garcia pays fines, now Ryder Cup eligible

Sergio Garcia returns to the Ryder Cup with the chance to represent Team Europe for the 12th time next year with Bethpage Black.

According to exclusive information Report from Bunkered's Ben ParsonsGarcia worked with LIV Golf to pay outstanding fines owed by the DP World Tour. These fines reportedly total more than $1.2 million. Garcia will also be suspended before being eligible to compete on the DP World Tour again in 2025.

Ryder Copper, the winningest player in history, is in talks with European captain Luke Donald about a possible return. Garcia also expressed confidence in his game and the future of the Ryder Cup. Recent interview with golf monthly.

“We have had discussions with the European Tour and we still want to support the European Tour so we hope that we can all come to an agreement and fix it,” Garcia said.

“I feel like my game is still good enough to play in at least a couple of Ryder Cups, so if I can keep that level up. Hopefully everything works out and I can get to that point.”

Data Golf currently has Garcia. Player ranked 22nd in the world. After a strong performance at the US Open in June, he won his first victory at the LIV Golf Event in July of this year. He carded rounds of 69-71-71-70 on No. 2 Pinehurst, finishing T-12 with a 1-over total.

However, since joining LIV, Garcia has struggled to break into the field for major championships. He missed out on qualifying for last year's British Open Championship at Royal Troon.

He will also miss the 2023 Ryder Cup in Rome because he declined membership on the DP World Tour.

“To be part of the European Tour, you have to be born in Europe,” Donald reiterated in New York in October.

“If you meet the regulations and rules set by the DP World Tour, you are eligible. There are a lot of LIV players playing in LIV who are currently eligible, so I am free to pick and choose them. Masu.”

However, now that the penalty against the Spaniard has been resolved, it looks like Donald will be able to name Garcia.
