According to a report from telegraph paper On Thursday, it was revealed that the 24-year-old swimmer had hired Canadian law firm Tia to handle his case at Switzerland’s Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Thomas’ lawsuit comes after the sport’s governing body, World Aquatics, began banning individuals who have experienced “parts of male puberty” from competing against biological females in 2022.

Before this rule, trans women were allowed to compete with biological women by lowering their testosterone levels.

Despite the legal battle, Thomas’ case is unlikely to be heard before Thomas qualifies for the Olympic trials in June.
