Report: Veteran CBS News Anchor Gayle King Anticipated to Leave Program During Network Changes

Gayle King May Depart CBS Mornings

Reports indicate that Gayle King is likely to exit her role as co-host of CBS Mornings next year amid changes under the new ownership of Paramount Skydance. King’s contract is effective until May, and there are discussions about her possibly assuming a different position within the network’s news division as Paramount initiates a significant reorganization.

According to sources, CBS executives aim to retain King by presenting options for her to create her own shows and specials under the network’s brand.

That said, a CBS representative denied any formal talks regarding King’s contract, asserting that she is still viewed as a crucial member of the CBS team. The spokesperson noted, “We have not had any discussions with Gayle regarding her contract, which runs through May 2026. She is a truly valuable asset to CBS, and we look forward to discussing the future with her.”

Speculation about King’s departure has emerged alongside reports of significant layoffs within CBS News and its parent company, leading one insider to describe the situation as a “catastrophe.” These layoffs reportedly impacted nearly the entire “Race and Culture” department, affecting around 100 employees.

Additionally, it has been reported that CBS plans to let go of “Saturday Morning” co-hosts Michelle Miller and Dana Jacobson as part of a broader revamp of the program. The network will also be discontinuing its streaming offerings, “CBS Mornings Plus” and “CBS Evening News Plus.”

In related news, CBS Evening News co-host John Dickerson revealed he will leave the network in December. Following Paramount’s acquisition of The Free Press for $150 million, CEO David Ellison appointed Bari Weiss as editor-in-chief of CBS News, but is reportedly looking to bring in Bret Baier from Fox News and Scott Jennings from Salem Radio Network.

CBS News has not responded to inquiries from the Daily Caller News Foundation.
