Texas Representative Jasmine Crockett Removed from Campaign Rally
Reports indicate that Texas Democratic Rep. Jasmine Crockett faced removal from her own campaign rally in Lubbock, with her team claiming it was due to concerns over her interactions with the press. According to an article, staff writer Elaine Godfrey detailed her experience at the rally, describing how she was approached by security and informed that she was unwelcome.
“Just before armed security took me out of the event and left me on a roadside, I learned I was no longer welcome,” Godfrey wrote, reflecting on her hour spent at the rally. She noted that shortly after joining fellow reporters, a woman with a badge asked her if she was the journalist from Atlantic and then told her to leave.
In her account, Godfrey recalls the staff member citing a message stating that she was labeled “a class hater” for her previous reporting, which reportedly included comments from some House Democrats without prior notice to Crockett.
Previously, Crockett expressed dissatisfaction with Godfrey after she published a profile discussing comments made by House Democrats, which reportedly led to Crockett closing the profile and withdrawing permission for coverage.
Godfrey noted that although Crockett later claimed no journalists were removed, she mentioned that some others had a “history” of grievances against her. Godfrey, drawing from her own experience, said, “That has never happened to me before.” She also indicated that while Crockett’s confrontational political style made the incident seem somewhat predictable, she still felt uncomfortable about how it was handled.
As security began to gather around her, Godfrey questioned the reasons behind the removal, contemplating the difference between an “upper-class hater” and a “middle-class hater.” Ultimately, she agreed to leave, escorted by security, and waited to arrange transportation at a nearby highway.
Efforts to reach out to Crockett’s campaign for comments remain ongoing.
