Rep. Nancy Mace (RS.C.) gave a masterclass on dealing with legacy media on Tuesday.
Mace this week proposed a bill that would require House members, officers and staff to use restrooms, locker rooms and dressing rooms in the Capitol and House office buildings that correspond to their biological sex. Made a noise.
“I’m not going to let a man into a woman’s private space, period. End of story.
Mace said the bill was necessitated by the election of Rep. Sarah McBride (D-Delaware) to Congress. McBride is biologically male, but identifies as female.
On Tuesday, an ABC News reporter confronted Mace over his proposed bill, using a disingenuous and belligerent frame of reference.
When a reporter first asked Mace whether laws should generally be “targeted against specific persons,” Mace quickly corrected the record.
“The bill doesn’t mention anyone,” she fact-checked.
When a reporter doubled down and claimed that Mace was specifically targeting Congressman-elect McBride, Mace explained why he refused to take a knee to stir up outrage.
“I said this is a consequence. I'm not going to allow a biological male into a woman's private space. I'm not going to allow anyone on the radical left who thinks it's okay to have a penis in there. “We're going to stand on the brink and get in the way of women's locker rooms, bathrooms, changing rooms,” she said.
“No way! I'm not going to put up with that,” she added. “This is no good. I'm a rape survivor, I'm a sexual abuse survivor. I'm not going to let a man into a woman's private space. Period. End of story.”
Unfortunately, the reporter did not back down and continued to ask questions that suggested Mace was not treating McBride with respect.
“Speaker Johnson said he wants to treat all new members with the words 'dignity and respect.' Is it dignity and respect that forces this member to go into the men's room?”Reporter asked.
“Forcing women to share their private spaces with men is not dignity, it is not respect,” Mace countered.
“We will absolutely stand in the way of anyone who thinks it's okay for men to be in our locker rooms, changing rooms, dressing rooms or women's restrooms,” she continued. “And in fact, if you agree to that, you're crazy.”
On Wednesday, Mace proposed a new bill that would protect women on all federal lands.. The bill is called the “Women's Private Space Protection Act.”
“The radical left would rather call me an extremist than admit they're wrong. They say I'm a 'threat.'” I'd rather believe that. We will shamelessly denounce the endangering of women and girls, and we will not allow them to be erased to score political points with a small but vocal activist base. ” said In a statement.
“Women and girls should not have to give up their safety and privacy just because the left wants to gain support from activist groups,” she continued. “This is not controversial, this is common sense. I will continue to protect women and girls from these harmful, outrageous and just plain weird policies.”
