Political Reporter Reflects on Reactions to Charlie Kirk’s Death
Mark Halperin, a political reporter, has acknowledged a troubling trend on the left regarding the response to the assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk. In a social media post on Friday evening, Halperin expressed his disbelief at seeing people celebrating Kirk’s murder on platforms like Twitter. Initially, he thought it was an exaggeration but later realized the reality was even more alarming.
Many users chimed in with their opinions. One individual remarked, “This is no longer a political battle. Mrs. Kirk was right. It was spiritual.” Another user commented, highlighting Halperin’s perspective on the radical left, stating, “You’re a very clever guy, but you’re still very naive about the situation.” This reflects a broader sentiment among some that the conflict has transcended mere politics.
Kirk was shot and killed at a speaking engagement at Utah Valley University on Wednesday, a tragic event that has resonated across the globe, leaving many in mourning. Yet, there are those who seem to take pleasure in the news.
Reports have surfaced that some left-leaning military personnel expressed disdain for Kirk’s assassination publicly. An article from Breitbart News detailed a comment from Guillermo Muniz, a commander who referred to the incident as the “FAFO situation.” He suggested that those who provoke others should be prepared for potential consequences.
In a posthumous recognition, Kirk was awarded the Presidential Medal of Honor, and plans for a Medal of Freedom from Donald Trump were mentioned by a local news station in Houston.
Reaction to the news was mixed, with some commenters expressing disbelief, such as Guido Falconi questioning whether there would be an award for Kirk’s death, while another user, Ronnie Hbr Wilson, expressed relief that Kirk would no longer wear it.
In an interview with Breitbart News, bestselling author and radio host Michael Savage discussed how Kirk’s murder has unveiled what he sees as a “fetish for death” pervading the country. He noted, “People today see them celebrating the deaths, and even murders of those they oppose. It’s something broken in the West. It’s not just politics. It’s a loss of religion, values, a higher purpose. Charlie Kirk saw it and was trying to fight it.”
