Resignation of Reporter Amid Controversy
Beni Rae Harmony, a reporter at ABC Newschannel 20 in Illinois, quit her position this week after being suspended for showing support for conservative activist Charlie Kirk. She referred to him as her “former mentor” and became emotional while recalling memories of working with him.
“Speak up about what you believe. I don’t mind what it is,” she stated, emphasizing the importance of sharing one’s views.
Harmony announced her resignation, saying it came after her suspension. “I made my decision quickly and effectively,” she shared in a post on social media, expressing frustration over being suspended for what she felt was a respectful gesture towards Kirk.
She noted, “Many in mainstream media have faced consequences for their reactions to his assassination. It seems like I was among the first to honor him; my resignation reflects who I am, and I won’t compromise that for a job. I stand by my faith and love for my country. I thank my community and Springfield for their support. God bless Charlie Kirk and his family, and God bless the United States.”
Reactions on social media poured in, with users expressing their support. One mentioned, “Thanks for being true to your beliefs. Your next steps will surely be amazing, and I’m eager to support you.” Another remarked on the unfortunate circumstances, stating, “You deserve more! I’m proud of you for standing strong.” A third user, identifying as a resident of Illinois, offered encouragement, saying, “You’ve got this. God’s with you.”
