Reporters Anger at Tim Walz as He Leaves Without Answering Questions

Walz Faces Backlash After News Conference

On Monday, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz chastised reporters for leaving a brief news conference without asking any questions. This came immediately after he publicly announced the cancellation of his 2026 gubernatorial re-election campaign.

As he exited the room, there was a palpable sense of confusion among the reporters who hadn’t been granted the chance to inquire about his abrupt decision or the controversies involving Somali communities. “Wow, then,” one reporter remarked, clearly taken aback.

Another journalist questioned, “You said you would take questions, so why didn’t you?” It was a moment that left many feeling somewhat unsettled.

Walz reassured the media that he would address all their questions on Tuesday while discussing the state’s paid family leave program.

Recently, he has faced mounting criticism from both Minnesota officials and the public in connection with alleged widespread fraud within the Somali community. In November, accusations emerged that Walz had overlooked whistleblower reports and attempted to undermine allegations of fraud.

Federal prosecutors have charged over 90 individuals, primarily of Somali descent, for allegedly siphoning more than $9 billion in taxpayer funds from federal welfare programs in Minnesota. This scandal notably involves over $350 million misappropriated from Feeding Our Future, a nonprofit dedicated to feeding underserved children during the pandemic.

A December documentary by YouTuber Nick Shirley highlighted 10 daycare centers in Somalia purportedly funded by American taxpayers but apparently not providing any services. Notably, five of these centers operated as Feeding Our Future sites from 2018 to 2021 and collectively received $5 million from the program. For reference, local reports have echoed these concerns.

Interestingly, the telephone number for Sweet Angel Child Care Center in Minneapolis turned out to be the same as Walz’s office, adding another layer to the story.

Initially, Democratic party leaders, including Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan, showed support for the Somali community until the allegations of misconduct came to light.
