Reporters Question Karoline Leavitt About the Implications of Tom Homan's Visit to Minnesota for Kristi Noem

Trump’s Confidence in Noem Amidst Immigration Protests

During a press briefing on Monday, White House press secretary Caroline Levitt reassured journalists about President Donald Trump’s ongoing support for Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, ahead of Border Protection Secretary Tom Homan’s trip to Minnesota. Levitt stated on X that Homan is being deployed to oversee Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations in the state and to work with investigators on “massive and widespread fraud.” This came as reporters questioned whether Trump’s trust in Noem had waned, particularly given the anti-ICE protests in areas of Minneapolis.

When asked if Homan’s presence signified dissatisfaction from the President, Levitt firmly denied that notion. “No,” she responded. “Mr. Homan has done an exceptional job and has collaborated with Director Noem. Secretary Noem still enjoys the tremendous trust and confidence of the President of the United States. And she continues to oversee the entire Department of Homeland Security and all states.” She emphasized that immigration enforcement efforts are ongoing throughout the country.

Another reporter pressed for clarification on whether Trump had faith in Noem’s leadership at the DHS. Levitt reaffirmed, “Yes, the answer to the first question is yes. He continues to have confidence and confidence in Secretary Noem.”

The backdrop to the press briefing includes rising tensions in Minnesota due to protests following the deaths of a protester and an ICE officer. Authorities such as Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey have asked for federal immigration agencies to withdraw from the state entirely.

When a third reporter inquired if Noem’s potential mistakes were related to Homan’s deployment, Levitt denied any such claims, stating, “Mr. Homan has worked with Secretary Noem. He is in a unique position; I will fly to Minnesota today to continue interacting with state and local officials.”

In a subsequent statement on X, Noem expressed her support for Homan’s visit, calling it “good news for peace, safety, and accountability in Minneapolis,” and highlighted the importance of his expertise in addressing the fraud issue affecting Americans. She called for collaboration among Minnesota’s leaders to promote public safety.

Following recent violence, nearly 1,000 additional ICE agents were sent to Minnesota to support federal enforcement activities. During a surprise appearance at a White House briefing, President Trump shared photos of individuals with criminal backgrounds who had allegedly committed serious offenses in the state.
