Calls for Resignation After Violent Incident in Cincinnati
Republican Senator Bernie Moreno from Ohio is urging Cincinnati’s Mayor Aftab Pureval to step down following a violent altercation that occurred downtown over the weekend.
Footage from the event depicts two men engaging in a physical confrontation as onlookers shout in distress. One individual in a white shirt falls to the ground, where he is subsequently assaulted and kicked while others record the unfolding scene.
Witnesses reported that one man appeared intoxicated and temporarily left the area, only to return later with others who allegedly heard racial remarks, according to reports.
During the chaos, a man in a white T-shirt struck a woman dressed in floral print, causing her to fall. She seemed to lose consciousness as the camera focused on her face. Another woman rushed over to help, lifting the injured woman’s head, which was bleeding. Eventually, the woman in the floral dress began to regain mobility as others tried to assist her.
“This is a brutal assault. The mayor of Cincinnati is lacking in honor,” Moreno stated in relation to the incident. “It’s time for you to resign. You have a House member who genuinely cares for his constituents and supports the police,” he added.
Representative Michael Rulli also spoke out, emphasizing the normalization of fear and confusion in the community. He criticized leftist policies that, he claimed, have led to sanctuary cities, diminished police funding, and a rise in crime and disorder.
Vice President J.D. Vance, who previously served as a senator from Ohio, also reacted to the attack, describing the situation as “unbelievable.” He expressed the hope that everyone involved in the violence would face full legal repercussions. “When a grown man attacks women like that, he deserves a lengthy prison sentence,” Vance remarked. “It’s alarming how much lawlessness is present in our cities.”
Reports confirm that two individuals, Montian Meriweather and Dekira Vernon, have been arrested in connection with the altercation.
