Kamala Harris Enter Presidential DebateRepublican senators are demanding that television stations disclose all communications Harris had with her campaign before she appeared onstage with the former president. Donald Trump.
“On the night of the debate, it was abundantly clear that ABC News and its moderators had a biased agenda,” Sen. Roger Marshall, R-Kansas, wrote in a letter to ABC News President Armin Karamehmedovic and Harris campaign manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez.
“More than 67 million Americans watched as a policy exchange between two presidential candidates quickly turned into a three-on-one debate with the Republican candidate,” Marshall added in the letter, first reported by NewsNation.
President Trump and his allies have complained bitterly that ABC News fact-checked the former president multiple times during the live broadcast but did not challenge Harris. Some Trump supporters have gone further, alleging that ABC News leaked questions to Harris, giving her preferential treatment in the showdown.
ABC News did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the letter. Marshall's document request is not legally binding and has so far not garnered support from Republican lawmakers.
Marshall's letter calls on ABC News to turn over and make public all text messages and emails with Harris' team to address concerns about coordination.
“The American people demand transparency and accountability from the mainstream media and deserve a full accounting of whether ABC News worked with the Harris campaign to skew debate questions and fact-checking in the Vice President's favor,” Marshall said in the letter.
