MSNBC contributor Donny Deutsch said Thursday on “Morning Joe” that it’s a “real problem” because Republicans are behind former President Donald Trump’s popularity in the polls.
Commentator Mike Barnicle said, “As I knew it, as you all knew it, as you all knew it, as you all knew it, as everybody knew it, the Republican Party is gone, gone. This has been going on for eight years. Donnie, we’ve been doing this dance for eight years with different Republicans, from meanness to lack of character to total duplicity to fraud. The disappearance and fading of a political party means nothing to a lot of people today. I don’t know how to rebrand it.”
“The real problem is not the party itself, it’s the voters who are affiliated with the party. Last time, 74 million people were affiliated. This time, Trump is leading in the polls, but not by a large margin. The real question, the most troubling thing — and I think it’s true for many of those who voted for Trump — is the party is speaking for itself. The party is transparent. We see that. Other than Liz Cheney and Mitt Romney, and you look at Paul Ryan, I don’t think there’s any Republican who would stand up or disagree with their courageous leadership,” Deutsch said.
He added: “How can half the population at this point be saying ‘that’s my party, I’m voting for that, that’s what’s good for me’? That’s the issue. This is beyond parties. It’s the voters who are voting for parties. That keeps me up at night.”
