Republicans are furious and frustrated with House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) over a 1,547-page spending deal released just days before the deadline.
The Continuing Resolution (CR) announced on Tuesday night, negotiated by Mr Johnson on the Republican side, contains tens of billions of dollars in wasted spending and includes controversial measures such as pay increases for MPs and a one-year extension to parliament. It also includes funding for items to be developed. The State Department's Global Engagement Center (GEC) funds organizations that censor conservative media such as Breitbart News.
Many conservative MPs are shocked by what they find inside this monster.
“I was informed that @SpeakerJohnson blocked RECA reauthorization from being included in the CR,” said Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah). “I am working with the entire Utah delegation and many other members of Congress, including @RepMaloyUtah, @KyrstenSinema, and @HawleyMO, to support the interests of the American people harmed by our government's nuclear testing, mining, and waste storage. We have created a compromise solution to expand and maintain the .
“Just today, Chairman Johnson said that the continuing resolution must include disaster relief for families still suffering from the effects of Hurricanes Helen and Milton. A legitimate concern!” he continued.
“But now we know that a bill full of benefits from The Uniparty™️ to The Swamp™️ has room to compensate people who suffer from radiation exposure and other illnesses *caused by our government.” “They say no,” he continued. “no way”
“Why are the victims of our own government’s nuclear testing being put off by The Uniparty™️ and The Swamp™️?” he asked.
Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) said, “I would have liked to see @SpeakerJohnson grow a spine, but seeing this bill full of pork makes me realize he's a weak, weak man. I understand,” he said.
“The debt will continue to rise. Eventually the dollar will collapse. Democrats are ignorant and big government Republicans are complicit. It's a sad day for America,” he added.
Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mich.) said Johnson “personally killed the bipartisan, bicameral expansion and spending cap RECA agreement.”
“He was the only one who caused it,” he said, placing the blame squarely on Johnson. “But he's going to spend billions of dollars on Ukrainian and foreign wars and every pork barrel project known to man.”
He concluded that Mr Johnson was simply aligning himself with lobbyists.
“The American people have just given President Trump and the Republican Party in Congress a decisive mandate,” said Representative Andrew Clyde (R-Ga.). “So why did the House Republican leadership negotiate a spending bill that we lost?”
Rep. Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.) offered a more seasoned critique.
This was three days before the government shutdown.
and I'm at my desk
It's on page 54 of this 1,547 page mess.
CR is trash
It's full of carnage.
I firmly refuse
Don't stoop so low.
“So Congress is once again failing the American people and raising its own pay in the process? You can't make something like this up,” said Rep. Eli Crane (R-Ariz.). spoke. “I vote against it.”
Representative Tom Tiffany (R-Wis.) made it clear that he opposed the bill, saying, “The American people have been given another lump of coal, courtesy of the Swamp.”
As more responses poured in, he added, “The American people voted to end runaway spending, and I stand with them.”
