In light of Mamdani’s surprising victory in his hometown, GOP members are intensifying their efforts to link Democratic candidates to what they perceive as radical leftist ideologies. This tactic is particularly relevant in New Hampshire, where there’s a competitive race to replace Democratic Senator Jeanne Shaheen.
This week, Republican candidate Scott Brown released a digital ad featuring imagery of Democratic candidate Rep. Chris Pappas alongside notable progressives like Mamdani and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, both vocal supporters of Mamdani.
Trump Warns of Consequences if Mamdani Wins
The ad has sparked significant conversation, with captions branding Pappas as “Comrade Chris.” Pappas has defended his campaign, stating that Republicans have spent millions portraying him inaccurately. “People know me and the work I do,” he emphasized, asserting his commitment to bipartisan efforts in Congress.
Democrats Scramble to Address Concerns About Mamdani’s Influence
Joining the campaign trail is Senator Amy Klobuchar, who has been actively engaging with voters in New Hampshire ahead of the upcoming election cycle.
“This race is about what truly matters for our state and its people,” Pappas noted, indicating that he feels Republicans are misrepresenting their candidates to gain traction.
The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) quickly pounced on Mamdani’s leftist leanings, with spokesperson Mike Marinella declaring, “The Democrats are in a nightmare scenario now that a socialist has emerged.”
Trump has also weighed in, repeatedly labeling Mamdani a “communist” since his recent victory, and highlighting potential repercussions for New York City if he secures a mayoral position.
In an ambitious agenda, Mamdani aims to implement a range of proposals including fare-free public transport and tuition-free education at CUNY, along with significant childcare initiatives.

Rep. Steve Cohen remarked, “New York is a liberal stronghold, and I’m not so sure these strategies can be extrapolated elsewhere.” Meanwhile, campaign advisors for Pappas dismissed the Republican criticism, insisting voters see through these tactics.
