Republicans mock Biden’s motionlessness at festive Juneteenth event

Republicans on Monday mocked President Biden for barely moving for nearly a minute during a Juneteenth music performance at the White House.

The 81-year-old president’s eyes were glued to the stage as gospel singer Kirk Franklin performed his song “Love Theory” for the commander in chief, Vice President Kamala Harris, Vice President Doug Emhoff and other dignitaries on the South Lawn. Biden stood still as the dignitaries all danced along.

“The lights are on but no one is there” – Trump campaign war room report Post to Xin response to Biden’s actions at the Juneteenth celebration.

Trump campaign adviser Stephen Chang joked that the president appeared to be under the influence of marijuana at the event.

“Biden: This food is damn bad. *15 minutes later*” Chan tweeted. It also includes a video clip of the president standing stiffly among the revelers.

“Who said Biden has no sense of rhythm?” Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) quipped on social media.

In another post, the senator raged, “Biden … did whatever he’s doing in this video while America was being invaded.”

At the event, held ahead of next week’s national holiday marking the abolition of slavery, Biden was flanked by Harris and Philonise Floyd, the brother of the late George Floyd.

At one point, Philonise Floyd was able to put his arm around Biden’s shoulders and galvanize him, and the two quickly exchanged fist bumps.

“I’ve never seen anything like this on the White House lawn before,” Biden said in remarks toward the end of the show, before saying he was “proud” to have signed a bill in 2021 designating Juneteenth as a federal holiday.

The Biden campaign did not respond to The Washington Post’s request for comment.
