Republicans Set Their Sights on Impeaching Two Judges!

Republicans target two judges for impeachment

The two Republican lawmakers filed one article each on Monday with two judges who had delivered a ruling that effectively halted President Trump from proceeding with parts of his agenda.

Rep. Andrew Clyde (R-Ga.) mentioned that he introduced an article regarding the issue. Chief Judge John McConnell of the Rhode Island-based US District Court had previously issued an injunction this month that prevented the Trump administration’s extensive federal spending freeze. This injunction request was made by the state’s Democratic attorney general.

One article alleged McConnell of “abuse of power,” asserting that the judge “intentionally politicized and weaponized his judicial role to promote his own political ideologies.”

The other article claimed McConnell had a “conflict of interest” and explained that his position on a nonprofit board could compromise his judgment since the organization receives funding from Rhode Island. Clyde stated that McConnell should have recused himself from the matter.

Rep. Andy Ogles (R-Tenn.) also announced last week that he had submitted an article on the matter against Maryland-based US District Judge Theodore Chuan.

In his resolution, Ogles stated that Chuan “encroached upon the President’s Article 2 powers.”

The lawmakers charged both judges with high crimes and misdemeanors, asserting that they should be removed from their roles.

The scrutiny of judges will be added to the expanding list of minor judges overseeing the Trump administration who are presently facing an article in the House.

President Trump has also called on at least one district judge, James Boasberg, to be impeached. Judge Boasberg issued a nationwide injunction to prevent Venezuelan immigrants from invoking alien enemy laws.

The impeachment call is viewed as a minimal effort, with no fewer than 14 Senate Democrats siding with Republicans in the push for the conviction and removal of judges.

The push against federal judges over disappointing rulings involves legal experts, including Supreme Court Justice John Roberts, who issued a caution against pursuing impeachment last week.

“For over two centuries, it has been established that impeachment is not an appropriate response to disagreements over judicial rulings,” he remarked last week.
