Republicans stop Democrats from issuing a subpoena for FCC's Brendan Carr regarding Jimmy Kimmel

On Thursday, House Republicans called on Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman Brendan Carr to testify before the Committee on Surveillance and Government Reform, specifically regarding Rep. Locanna (D-Calif).

The committee voted 24-21 along party lines, leading to the defeat of Kanna’s proposals. However, Rep. Robert Garcia (Calif.), the committee’s leading Democrat, mentioned plans to collaborate with committee chair James Kommer (R-KY).

Democrats expressed frustration over Carr’s campaign against late-night host Jimmy Kimmel, who was suspended indefinitely from ABC following remarks about the individual accused of assassinating conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

There were implications that ABC’s affiliate license could face revocation if Kimmel wasn’t disciplined after Carr’s comments during a podcast interview.

Kanna labeled the FCC Chairman’s conduct as “one of the greatest assaults on freedom of speech in modern times.”

“They make comedy illegal. Brendan Carr pressures ABC to cancel Jimmy Kimmel, and Disney will follow suit,” Kanna stated to legislators.

He also criticized the Trump administration for its role in cancel culture, supporting Kimmel’s suspension and voicing concerns about the political climate in the country.

In response to Kirk’s death, Kimmel accused the Maga movement of attempting to gain political leverage, comparing their response to “lamenting a 4-year-old goldfish” on his show Wednesday.

Kimmel further suggested that Tyler Robinson, the alleged killer of Kirk, was part of the “Maga” group.

On a show this past Monday, Kimmel remarked that the “Maga gang” reached several new lows in their attempts to define the child who killed Charlie Kirk.

Although Robinson’s parents had conservative beliefs, it appeared that his own political views had shifted leftward in recent years. It was also uncovered that Robinson had a romantic relationship with a roommate who had transitioned from male to female, and Robinson reportedly felt angered by Kirk’s viewpoints on the matter.
