Republicans strongly support Trump in conflict with Elon Musk, according to a survey

Trump and Musk’s Public Dispute: A Poll Overview

A recent poll shows that nearly 75% of Republican presidents, including Trump, have faced public disagreements with Elon Musk. This survey, released on Friday, reveals that just 6% of Republicans side with Musk in the ongoing dispute related to the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act”—a proposed legislative milestone for Trump’s second term, despite the president’s loyal base supporting him.

Interestingly, 12% of participants back both sides in the feud, while 11% are undecided about whom to support.

Among independents, 18% lean towards Trump, in contrast to only 8% favoring Musk. The majority, around 59%, appear to be neutral in this conflict.

For Democrats, Musk garners 11% support, while Trump trails at just 4%. However, a significant 80% say they support both. Overall, 28% of all respondents support Trump in the clash, while just 8% support Musk. A substantial 52% of those surveyed remain neutral, indicating a divide in public opinion.

The poll was conducted on Thursday, shortly after Tesla and X leaders exited the White House as principal advisors to the president, highlighting a deteriorating alliance between Trump and Musk just days following a SpaceX event.

The Ongoing Feud Between Trump and Musk

Musk has openly criticized the “One Big Beautiful Bill” making its way through Congress, with Trump expressing disappointment about the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and its handling of various issues. Trump remarked, “Elon and I had a great relationship, but I don’t know if that will continue.”

In a direct response, Musk tweeted, “Without me, Trump would lose the election, Dems would control the House, and Republicans would be 51-49 in the Senate.” These kinds of exchanges illustrate the ongoing tension between the two.

Interestingly, while most people seem indifferent to the feud, Musk’s criticism of Trump’s administration, particularly linked to tax documents involving convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, has raised eyebrows.

In retaliation, Trump suggested he might consider terminating government contracts with Musk’s company, after alleging that former DOGE officials have lost their sanity over budget negotiations. “I don’t care that Elon is coming after me, but he should’ve done that months ago,” Trump stated on True Social, emphasizing that his budget bill is “one of the largest ever presented to Congress.”

Despite this conflict, some Republican lawmakers have played down the feud’s significance on the negotiations concerning the bill.

The YouGov survey, which involved 3,812 adults in the U.S., took place on June 5, 2025.
