Firefighters in Northern and South Carolina fought over 175 wildfires that erupted in windy, dry conditions over the weekend, causing residents to evacuate several neighborhoods.
South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster declared a state of emergency on Sunday after more than 4,200 acres of fires broke out in the state.
The biggest wildfire was reported in the Carolina forest area about 10 miles west of the coastal city of Myrtle Beach. The flames burned 1,600 acres, including 30% Sunday evening, according to the South Carolina Forestry Commission.
Residents had been ordered to evacuate several areas near the wildfire, but by late Sunday afternoon the evacuation order had been lifted, Holly County Firefighters said.

On Sunday evening, the structure was not destroyed and no injuries were reported.
In North Carolina, the U.S. Forest Service said on Sunday that firefighters are working to contain multiple wildfires burning in the state's four forests.

The largest approximately 400 acres were located in the Uhari National Forest, about 50 miles east of Charlotte. The Forest Service said it made progress in the fire Sunday afternoon, reaching about a third of containment.

Meanwhile, the brush fire at Blue Ridge Mountain, about 40 miles south of Asheville, is 400-500 acres, with 0% as of Sunday afternoon, according to the North Carolina Forest Service.

According to Salda Fire Rescue, the Melrose fire burning in the Salda and Trion communities was caused by fallen power lines. The fire spread rapidly into the mountains, threatening several structures and evacuating some residents.
