Initially, my response to his assassination was fueled by anger, and I found myself wanting to retaliate against those I believed were responsible. As Andrew Breitbart would often say, part of me wanted to take a “right digging” approach. The left has sown a lot of divisive rhetoric—lies and incitements to violence. But Charlie was a man of peace, standing firmly in truth and courage, embodying the teachings of Jesus Christ.
I felt that anger bubbling inside me, but then I took a moment to kneel and pray, seeking guidance from God. I remember my grandfather and sister who were both victims of murder. The urge for vengeance was strong, but my Catholic faith reminded me that violence was not the answer. This realization came again in relation to Charlie’s murder; prayer was what shifted me toward a more hopeful and constructive path.
As I reflected on Charlie and Turning Point USA, I realized he was akin to a biblical figure, and his message shouldn’t be tainted by hate. Instead, it should inspire action to honor his legacy. It reminded me of a call to arms from Shakespeare’s Henry V. Following in Charlie’s footsteps means we fight for justice through truth, courage, and love—tools not only for American ideals but for humanity as a whole.
