Godzilla x Kong: New Empire hit theaters a few weeks ago, and while the movie is doing well at the box office, Lauren Chen isn’t impressed.
“Godzilla,” “Kong,” a giant “mechanical arm lock,” “a new tribe of evil-looking great apes,” and “a girl who seems to have these psychic visions.” The plot in between is, of course, “everything.” Beyond the scene. ”
“Overall, I like the MonsterVerse,” Lauren says, noting that the series has produced five films in the 10 years since its founding. “But I think we’re starting to suffer from what a lot of series inevitably suffer from…jumping the shark.”
“If you look at those original two movies; [‘Godzilla’ (2014) and ‘Kong: Skull Island’ (2017)]I think it was a darker, more grounded, more raw approach,” she says.
But now that the series is in its fifth installment, Loren feels like the producers are essentially saying, “You know what? He said, “People don’t come here for the story or the plot. [or] For character; let the monsters fight each other. ”
A dual underground world that Lauren calls “Hollow Hollow Earth,” an “ancient subterranean group of mystical people” with “strange crystal magical powers,” and many “monsters punching each other in the face.” ” When it comes to movies, especially when it comes to “plot” and “actual script,” it’s just “[doesn’t] Makes sense. ”
However, Lauren says, “If you want to have a good time with monsters fighting each other and lots of CGI battles (which are very well done, by the way), I think you’ll have a good time with this movie.”
Other positives include that the movie “doesn’t wake you up,” “has a lot of jokes,” and “has a fun soundtrack.”
