Revolut Gains Sixth International Banking License in Colombia

Revolut has taken another step in its global growth by obtaining a bank license in Colombia, according to a press announcement made on Tuesday, September 15.

The Superintendencia Financiera de Colombia (SFC) granted the crucial licença de funcionamento, which completes the regulatory process for Revolut to operate as a regulated bank in the nation.

The company aims to launch a broad range of financial services in Colombia, with around 200,000 Colombians already on its waitlist.

Revolut’s Founder and CEO, Nik Storonsky, shared that this license allows the company to introduce its advanced technology and financial reliability to a vibrant market, creating a transparent platform for Colombians to take charge of their finances.

Diego Caicedo, the CEO of Revolut Colombia, emphasized that the company’s approach goes beyond conventional banking; it’s about linking Colombia to the global economy and streamlining remittances and access to top-tier products all in one platform, backed by robust financial infrastructure.

With this new license, Revolut now holds six full banking licenses worldwide, including previous approvals in the UK, France, Australia, Lithuania, and Mexico.

This year, the company also gained conditional approval for a U.S. national bank charter from the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), acquired a payments license in the UAE, and received an Organization License from the Superintendency of Banking, Insurance and AFP (SBS) in Peru.

PYMNTS reported recently that once all approvals are finalized for the bank in the U.S., Revolut plans to offer American customers loans, credit cards, and FDIC-insured deposits, along with access to stablecoins and cryptocurrencies.

In its annual report released earlier in March, Revolut announced a 40% increase in revenues for 2025, reaching $6 billion, with profits soaring to a record $2.3 billion.

Storonsky remarked at that time that 2025 had been a pivotal year, highlighting the creation of a diversified and resilient business that has achieved profitability on a large scale and serves as a solid foundation for future growth.

As Revolut continues to evolve into a truly global bank, Storonsky noted that its technology-driven model is enabling rapid expansion and impressive profitability.
